It is rare for War Requiem to be performed, such are the challenges of the score, so this Workshop, led by Peter Allwood, provides an exciting opportunity to learn more about the work in an informal atmosphere. 

Unusually, the workshop will take place over two days. The first day’s musical work will focus exclusively on the choral parts, giving participants an opportunity to study their role in greater depth, while also gaining a greater understanding of the structure of the piece and, in particular, the way that Britten interweaves Wilfred Owen’s poetry. On the second day, we will be joined by some soloists, and attempt to put together a complete run-through of the work, the soprano soloist working alongside the chorus on the text of the Latin Requiem, while the tenor and baritone will provide the interwoven song-cycle of Owen’s poetry.

Our workshop will take place on the weekend of October 17th and 18th 2026 at Christ's Hospital school near Horsham, West Sussex.  Free car parking is available at the school or if using public transport it is only a few minutes' walk from Christ's Hospital train station.

This workshop is being organised by the combined choirs of Chantry Quire, Christ's Hospital Choral Society and West Sussex Philharmonic Choir.  Tickets for  current members of any of these choirs will be £50 per person for the full two day workshop.  This price includes the loan of a score. 

Singers from other choirs are also welcome at a cost of £60 per person for the two days, including the loan of a score.

Tickets are available without a score hire charge, and also for one day only.

Scores  must be returned at the end of the workshop. 

Tea, coffee, water etc will be provided on both days but singers should bring their own lunch, snacks etc.
